I Think God Might Be Trying To Smite The Valley

A few weeks back, some punk teenagers tried to burn down the Hollywood sign by starting a fire about a mile away from my house. It's the driest "rainy season" on record for Los Angeles, so that fire went from a 5 acre problem to a 150 acre problem real quick and made a beeline for the Hollywood sign. Fortunately, it was contained.

Today, there is a FIERCE windstorm swooping through Los Angeles, with it's strongest current sailing down the 5 freeway in the SFV, yo. Palm trees are bent, palm fronds and dust are flying and, for a while, the Hollywood sign was obscured by all the dirt stirred up by the wind in the mountains around it. I work on the 18th floor of one of the few "skyscrapers" in this part of L.A. The sound of the wind rushing past the building sounds a bit like a distant train.

Oh, and there's another fire to the west of us, perhaps close to Brentwood, we can't tell.

Anyway, I suppose that's the exciting thing going on today.
