Dark Forces Are Working Against Me

I have a dilemma. There is no one with whom I can go see Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

The Muppet and her man will be in Mexico at a wedding. She will be sporting a hat about which I have very strong feelings. Meanwhile, in NYC, I will be roaming the streets aimlessly on May 19, lamenting the fact that I simply just do not know enough dorks.

Ideally, I'd like to see it with my bro. He's so excited about it. It was via his own devout loyalty to Star Wars that I found my own special bond with it. He's older, so when we were growing up, I really had no choice but to watch Star Wars whenever he had control of the TV, WHICH WAS ALL THE DAMN TIME. However, doing that could prove a bit scary. He's a serious fan. He's not going to dress up or anything, but he will be very intent on seeing the movie in the perfect environment. He will not tolerate screaming children or overly zealous individuals. And he's big, so someone might get hurt. I think I'd take my chances.

Additionally, a lot of my childhood memories are tied to Star Wars. Like the time my mom beat my brother's ass with his light sabre. Shouldn't have lied, Steve! Shouldn't have lied!

Or the time we went to Video Towne and rented Spaceballs. I whined the entire time we were in the store for my mom to buy me Garbage Pail Kids. I loved those things! Steve picked Spaceballs to rent. We then piled into the Buick Riviera and rocked out to Jefferson Starship Airplane Spaceship's "We Built This City" all the way home.

I think the other movie we got was Dragnet. It was brutal. We sat through it about halfway and then popped Spaceballs into our awesome top-loading FOUR HEAD VCR! I had never heard my mom laugh so hard.

The Empire Strikes Back was re-released when Meghan and I were living in Europe. We were in Munich at the time and everybody was buying tickets. We bought our tickets ahead of time, as they were assigned seats, and then we went to the Hofbrau House (I think that's what it was called. Meghan?) to drink some huge beers. Those huge beers were GOOD. So good in fact, that as soon as the movie started, I pretty much fell asleep. I woke at various points, but just couldn't stay awake. Funnily enough, I seemed to wake at all the points where new VFX had been added, so I got to see them. But still...Damn you, Enormous Lowenbraus On An Empty Stomach!

This is The Last One. I want it to be special. It's not just a movie, it's like an historical event. I'm not too down with taking days off to see it in NJ with my bro, but I will if I have to. You just don't get these moments back! And I can't go by myself, because who will feel me when that effing PIMP rises as Darth Vader and I'm all, "OH. FUCKING. YEAH."? You can't have that moment with a stranger! It just doesn't work! It's not the same!

Ok, enough bitching. Baby Steve needs to wake up so he can tell me what to do.

I was so disappointed in Episodes I & II I haven't made any special plans for this one.

But it's funny you mention the Hofbrau House in Munich, I remember one drunken evening there right out of high school, being cajoled into dancing a polka by Mary Simpson and enjoying the hell out of it despite being "too cool."

    Good times!

There is no such thing as being "too cool" for a polka! Just ask Meghan about the polkas we danced with crazy Dutch women on "Ladies Night!"

I hear what you're saying about Episodes I & II. But I don't know...I feel like this is The One. We're OWED.

(And I don't know who this Mary Simpson bitch is, but she is never to be mentioned on my blog again - that is, unless she's 57 and has a huge, hairy mole on her eyelid.)
