An Ode To My Coffee

I have a feeling nothing I write this week is going to have any substance whatsoever. Some people make very nice livings off of substance-free writing, so I don't feel any guilt. You get my substance-free writing in exchange for your time. Most likely it's time for which someone else is (under)paying you. Heh heh heh.

The Muppet took a trip to Hawaii in January. In addition to bringing me back 9 cans of assorted macademia nuts (which I luuuurv), including coffee-flavored ones, she also gave me two bags of premium Hawaiian coffee. I've already used one bag and today I decided to french press the other one and...

OH. MY. GOD.

You all know how much I love coffee. I talk about it incessantly. I can't imagine my life without it. If I ever have babies, I think giving up coffee will be the hardest thing I have to do.

This cup of coffee was unlike any cup of coffee I have ever experienced. I followed the french press instructions to the letter. I could tell when I was pouring it into the mug that it was going to be good, so I decided to be naughty and fixed it with half & half instead of just whole milk. There was enough coffee left in the press for another serving, so I poured it out (it shouldn't sit in the press) and reserved it for later. I just finished it.

This wasn't just any old cup of coffee. It was a cup of blissful inspiration; a gustatory wonder of the word. It was sublime.

I hope one day each and every one of you will experience a cup of coffee like that which I experienced today. I'm not sure there's anything I could compare it to that would do it justice, but I'd come up with something...I'd just have to make sure it was suitable for public consumption.
